Quick start guide

Welcome to Talking Tiles
This guide will help you set up your device and get it ready to use in just a few steps.

2. What comes in the box #

  • Talking Tiles AAC device
  • Charger + cable
  • User manual
  • “Quick intro AAC modeling” pamphlet

3. Charge and power on #

  • Plug in the device using the included charger
  • Let it charge if needed
  • Press and hold the power button to turn it on

4. Complete basic device setup #

  1. Choose a language.
  2. Choose a 4-digit PIN to prevent
  3. Choose your starting board.
  4. Choose between colored tiles or no colors.
  5. Your AAC is ready for use ✅

5. Try your first button #

Once you’ve completed the initial setup:

  • Tap a button to hear speech output
  • Explore the home screen
  • Try a few buttons to get familiar with the layout

6. Add or edit a button #

  1. Tap on the “Settings” icon on the top right
  2. Enter your PIN
  3. Tap the “Edit Tiles” button
  4. Tap the “…” circle on any button, select “Edit.”
  5. Update the text, image, or record audio
  6. Save your changes

8. Adjust key settings #

From the “Settings” menu, you can adjust:

  • Volume: Press the volume up/down buttons on the top left of the device to adjust volume (right next the power buttons). You should see the current volume level in the top right corner of the black bar on top of your home screen.
  • Brightness: Tap “System” and then scroll down to the “Brightness” section and tap the +/- buttons to adjust the brightness level
  • Voice: Tap “Voice” from the Settings menu to adjust spoken voice (male, female, etc).
  • To adjust accessibility settings, such as delay speech on tap or prevent repeat, scroll down to the “When a Tile is Tapped” section.

9. Setup for the learner #

It’s time to customize the board to your learners’ needs.

  • Add new buttons containing the words your learner often uses (e.g., Cereal, Juice, Park, etc.)
  • Organize important buttons on the first page so it’s easier to find
  • Keep the layout consistent across home and school when possible
